Ray rockin

Ray Baretto: We were asked by a good friend of ours to lend Ray Baretto a set of congas so he wouldn't have to drag a set over to this gallery on Broadway to do a benefit for the "The Andrew Glover Youth Foundation" or something very similar. It's a group in New York that tries to help kids who get in trouble with the law to straighten out. Isn't Ray a sweetheart? So we took pictures & were real happy about it. Go see Ray live in small jazz clubs, or huge stadium salsa festivals. Last summer, he was King of Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Here are some Ray links:

  • Bluenote's Ray page

  • I can't really direct to the exact page , but cdnow.com has a nice 1 page bio. They have mp3 samples of some of his records.

Can you tell this guy is a hero to us? Do I need to tell you that Ray is one of the finest percussionists of this century? Ray is a Fania All-Star.

I know you don't believe me, but that's Bobby Sanabria playing wicked drums.

We ripped off one of his songs, "Trompeta y Trombon" on the Checkeetout comp with our song "Loose & Tight."

How happy are we?
My favorite Ray record is "Acid" which is worth the price just for the cover.
