Beny Moré, El Barbaro del Ritmo born in 1919. Did I say he was my all-time favorite Cuban singer? He is the best. His closest living musical relative is Celia Cruz, she can still sing any other singer off the stage in her eighties. But Beny was so smooth. This drunk pothead died in 1963 in Cuba of cirrhosis of the liver. He's the guy yelling the cues in the Perez Prado hits. Born Bartolo Moré. He's the master of tonality and meter. His timing defines Cuban singing. Click some links below and groove Cuban-style circa 1950. He is a national hero in Cuba because he sang so damn good. Got famous in Mexico.
